چکیده
The paper presents the assumptions of the course syllabus: GIS basics: parametric description of the urban space realised at the Architecture for the Society of Knowledge Master of Science degree program at the Faculty of Architecture, Warsaw University of Technology. The research conducted by students covered mapping of different aspects of urban phenomena and their relation with physical city scape. The part of exercise covered publishing the results in form of blogs. The course syllabus assumes preparing students to best practice the urban planner profession in the conditions of information society. Another objective is to provide them with the tools for influencing the dominant

Temporal Mapping and Spatial Analysis of Land Transformation Due to Urbanization and Its Impact on Surface Water System: a Case from Dhaka Metropolitan Area, Bangladesh
Temporal urban mapping develops a historical perspective of urban development by combining a variety of data sources into an integrated, multi-scale, and multi-resolution database. Temporal map and databases can be used to document human-induced land transformations in Dhaka Metropolitan Area (DMA), where the human induced land transformation rate is very high. Two main features – Arial expansi...
متن کاملAuto-extraction of Urban Features from Vehicle-borne Laser Data
Laser mapping has become quite popular in recent days due to its capability of providing information directly in three dimensions. These days, we observe the emergence of new demands for ‘along-street’ 3-D data. ‘Along-street’ 3-D data provide a real or true visualization of the environment that is different from virtual reality. However, there still lacks a reliable and quick method of acquiri...
متن کاملA GIS-based decision support system for analysis of route choice in congested urban road networks
Urban congestion patterns have become ubiquitous and complex. Traditional, “static” approaches are no longer adequate for analyzing network flows and conducting minimum cost routing. This paper reports on a GIS-based decision support tool for modeling dynamic network congestion and conducting minimum cost routing. The system predicts network flows at a detailed level of temporal resolution, cap...
متن کاملSpecial Issue on Spatio-Temporal Theories and Models for Environmental, Urban and Social Sciences: Where Do We Stand?
From early and landmark works in the late ‘80s and early ‘90s, temporal GIS and the development of spatiotemporal theories have prospered and have been the object of a series of successful specialized workshops and panels (e.g., DEXA spatiotemporal workshop in 1999, AAG successive panels on temporal GIS, GIScience temporal workshop in 2008, COSIT 2011 workshop on identifying objects, processes ...
متن کاملMapping Population Distribution in the Urban Environment: The Cadastral-based Expert Dasymetric System (CEDS)
This paper discusses the importance of determining an accurate depiction of total population and specific sub-population distribution for urban areas in order to develop an improved “denominator,” which would enable the calculation of more correct rates in GIS analyses involving public health, crime, and urban environmental planning. Rather than using data aggregated by arbitrary administrative...
